<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple apparatus for recovering methane gas excellent in operability, maintainability, and efficiency for production. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus comprises a supplying part 12c having an airtight configuration for introducing organic waste with water added to it, a decomposition tank 2 with an exhaust pipe 24 connected to its top via a shut-off valve for releasing the airtightness and also with a waste conveying tube 23 connected to its bottom, a fermentation tank 3 having a lower body 31 in the form of a top-open cylinder with a bottom composed of a lower sidewall integrated with the bottom and an upper body 33 composed of a cylindrical upper sidewall 33b integrated with a ceiling 33a to open downward, wherein the upper sidewall 33b is disposed facing inside the lower sidewall slidably up and down, and wherein the waste conveying tube 23 is connected to the lower body for supplying the organic waste, and a gas exhaust pipe 4 disposed in the fermentation tank 3 for discharging the generated methane gas.
