PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure a used area in which data which cannot be deleted by input of deletion by a user as an unused area in which video-recording is possible. SOLUTION: This hard disk recorder is provided with a control part 2 for controlling operation of the whole hard disk device 1, and a hard disk drive 10 for video-recording a program. The hard disk recorder is moreover provided with a video-recording/reading part 3 which detects an area (first area) X in which the title name of the video-recorded program in the used area B can be read, and an area (second area) Y consisting of an area W in which the title name of the video-recorded program in the used area B cannot be read and the unused area C, divides them by a partition and thereafter formats the second area Y.
