PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic toner which does not cause discomfort due to a foul odor emitted from a volatile component during use, ensures no contamination of a charging wire in corotron charging and a cleaning wire, and excels in fixability at low temperature and blocking property, and a method for manufacturing the toner. SOLUTION: The toner for electrostatic image development comprises base particles including an amorphous polyester resin, a colorant, a release agent and fine particles having a function to adsorb or decompose a volatile component generated from constituents of the toner, and a surface layer including a resin having a function to adsorb the volatile component generated from the constituents of the toner, wherein the surface layer has a thickness of <0.7μm, the fine particles exist in a position of 0.2-0.7μm from the surface of the toner observed in a microscopic appearance through a transmission electron microscope, the fine particles have a circle-equivalent diameter of 0.1-0.7μm, and the above amorphous polyester resin, colorant and release agent exist in a range between≥0.7μm from the surface of the toner and≤50% of the average diameter of the toner.
