PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air-cooled engine capable of omitting any seal countermeasures for preventing lubricating oil from oozing, uniforming the thermal distortion of each head bolt, realizing the miniaturization, and guiding cooling air to a part close to a combustion chamber. SOLUTION: In the air-cooled engine 10, a valve system chamber 65 for accommodating an intake valve 66 and an exhaust valve 67 is provided on a base part 81 of a cylinder head 28, the base part 81 overlaps a cylinder block 33, the overlapped base part 81 is fastened to the cylinder block 33 by head bolts 91, and the fastened cylinder head 28 is cooled with cooling air.
