摘要 An MPEG-4 decoder for D-VOP(Difference-Video Object Plane) decoding in a portable device is provided to avoid motion compensation and IDCT(Inverse Discrete Cosine Transform) for realizing high speed decoding, thereby realizing performance according to MPEG-4 standards while minimizing deterioration of screen quality in a portable device having limited resources. An MPEG-4 decoder for D-VOP decoding in a portable device includes a demultiplexer(100) receiving MPEG-4 video streams and outputting coded bit streams representing difference(D), motion, and texture. A texture decoding block(200) receives the coded bit streams representing texture from the demultiplexer and carries out decoding therefor to output decoded texture data. A motion compensation block(300) receives and decodes the coded bit streams representing motion from the demultiplexer, and carries out compensation for the same by using current motion data and previously reconstructed VOP. A VOP reconstruction block(400) reconstructs the VOP by the decoded texture and the motion-compensated difference signals input from the motion compensation block. A difference update block(500) receives the coded bit streams representing difference simultaneously with the reconstructed VOP, and updates difference data. A VOP storing part(600) stores the reconstructed VOP and the updated difference data, and supplies the previously reconstructed VOP to the motion compensation block and the difference update block.
