The invention relates to a sample container, more particularly a milk sample bottle, and to a method for taking a sample, more particularly for taking a milk sample, the sample container having a relatively simple design and being inexpensive to produce and yet being exceptionally well-protected against tampering. The sample container has a sealing cap which from fabrication to the analysis stage is held in a sealed closing position and is additionally secured by a securing cap. The securing cap is held in a first locked position corresponding to an empty transporting position or operational position and in a second locking position corresponding to a securing position on the sealing cap and, to allow the taking of a sample, can be opened from the empty transporting position or operational position and brought into the securing position.
