NONIONICALLY DERIVATIZED STARCHES AND THEIR USE IN NON-AEROSOL, LOW-VOLATILE-ORGANIC-COMPOUND HAIR COSMETIC COMPOSITIONS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel hair cosmetic composition having improved moisture resistance and excellent stability and having a low volatile organic content.

SOLUTION: The low-VOC (low volatile organic compound content) non-aerosol hair cosmetic composition contains a nonionically modified starch. The starch may be hydrolyzed, particularly enzymatically hydrolyzed. Further, the starch may be modified using ionic substituents. Use of such starches is novel and advantageous in that they provide clear solutions with good viscosities and good pump spray characteristics. Furthermore, the resultant composition provides a clear film which is not tack and has good stiffness and improved humidity resistance.
