PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To estimate the course of an object present in front of one's own vehicle with high accuracy even when the steering angle of the one's own vehicle is suddenly changed. SOLUTION: As regards a course estimating method based on the past positional history of an object and a course estimating method based on the relative position of the object and the traveling state of the one's own vehicle, a method to be used when estimating a course according to whether the absolute speed of the object is high or low is determined.
