PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the occurrence of crosstalk by employing a multiple matrix system and a field sequential system. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes switching elements which are respectively disposed in a plurality of pixels provided in correspondence to the intersections of a plurality of scanning lines and a plurality of of data lines, a scanning signal supplying means which divides one frame into a plurality of sub-frames, provides offline periods between the sub-frames, blocking the plurality of the scanning lines for common connection, and sequentially supplying selection signals to the blocks for every sub-frame, a data signal supplying means for supplying the data signal of the prescribed color image in the sub-frame to the pixel via the data line, and a lighting system which irradiates the pixel with the light corresponding to the prescribed color image in the offline period.
