PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive circuit which drives a display device comprising light-emitting elements arrayed into a matrix form, the drive circuit being a small circuit for generating a drive signal controlled to be under voltage amplitude modulation (AM) control and pulse width modulation (PWM) control. SOLUTION: The drive circuit outputs a drive waveform, generated by combining a plurality of stages of voltage amplitude modulation and pulse width modulation which can be set for each of voltage amplitudes of the plurality of stages, in order to drive a display element according to gray scale information, and is equipped with a control means of latching a pulse width to be imparted for the maximum voltage amplitude among the voltage amplitudes of the plurality of stages of the drive waveform according to the gray scale information, performing pulse width control over the maximum voltage amplitude, and performing waveform control so as to output a maximum pulse width, which can be output for a voltage amplitude smaller than the maximum voltage amplitude.
