PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article carrying device facilitating maintenance when an article transfer device is in failure. SOLUTION: The article carrying device of an article housing facility has an operation control means 27 controlling operation of storing or shipping of articles by an article carrying vehicle, by instructing a travel drive control means INV1 on a target drive state of a travel drive means M1, instructing a lifting drive control means on a target drive state of a lifting drive means, and instructing an advancing/retracting drive control means M3 on a target drive condition of an advancing/retracting drive means. The travel drive control means can switch between a normal drive state controlling the drive of the travel drive means, and a temporary drive state controlling the advancing/retracting drive means. The operation control means can switch between a normal instruction state instructing the advancing/retracting drive control means on the target drive state of the advancing/retracting drive means, and a temporary instruction state instructing the travel drive control means on the target drive state of the advancing/retracting drive means.
