PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a press die having excellent characteristics of self-lubricating mechanism. SOLUTION: The press die is composed of martensitic steel containing, by mass,≤3.0% Mo and≤3.0% Cu and is used under the condition that maximum working rate with respect to a work exceeds 0.37 m/s. It is preferable to use, for the martensitic steel as a base material of the die, steel which has a composition containing, by mass, 0.7 to <1.6% C, 0.5 to 3.0% Si, 0.1 to <3.0% Mn, <0.05% (including 0%) P, 0.01 to 0.12% S, 7.0 to 13.0% Cr, Mo or Mo and W within the range satisfying (Mo+W/2)=0.5 to 1.7%, <0.7% (including 0%) V, 0.3 to 1.5% Ni, 0.1 to 1.0% Cu and 0.1 to 0.7% Al.
