PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical path bending type zoom lens that easily ensures optical performance, is comparatively thin in the direction of its thickness and also sufficiently ensures a view angle, and to provide an imaging apparatus using the zoom lens. SOLUTION: The optical path bending type zoom lens includes, in order from the object side, a positive first lens group G1, a negative second lens group G2, a positive third lens group G3, a negative fourth lens group G4, and a positive fifth lens group G5. In addition, when the power is varied from the wide-angle end to the telephoto end, the first lens group is fixed, at least the second lens group and third lens group are moved, and intervals between the lens groups are changed. The second lens group is located on the image plane side at the telephoto end rather than the wide-angle end. The third lens group is located at the object side at the telephoto end rather than the wide-angle end. The first lens group includes a reflection optical element P that bends an optical path by reflection, and satisfies conditional equation (1) for the power of the first lens group.
