PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a key system for a rental house providing a high degree of security with no burden of key management service, simplifying lock-out and attaining labor saving and rationalization. SOLUTION: The key system for the rental house comprises a lock 14; a cipher code input means 4; a cipher code setting means 7; an unlocking cipher code storage means 11a for newly storing one or more unlocking cipher codes received by the cipher code input means 7 within a fixed time after deleting stored contents held up to that time when the cipher code setting means 7 is started; a forcible unlocking cipher code storage means 11b; a forcible unlocking means comprising a forcible unlocking implement 13 and an unlocking implement receiving means 10; a cipher code comparing means for comparing the code received by the cipher code input means, with the unlocking cipher code or with a forcible unlocking cipher code when the unlocking implement receiving means 10 receives the forcible unlocking implement 13, and outputting an authentication signal when determining that both codes coincide with each other; and an unlocking means 12 receiving the authentication signal to unlock the lock 14.
