A backlight unit for an LCD and a light source are provided to make it possible to generate a surface light with high brightness, by forming light emitting diodes in predetermined inclination angles with respect to a reflective plate. A light source(210) is configured to emit a light. A reflective plate(220) reflects the light emitted from the light source. A prism sheet(230) condenses the light emitted from the light source and the light reflected from the reflective plate. The light source includes a plurality of light emitting diodes(212), wherein the light emitting diodes incline in predetermined angles with respect to the reflective plate.
