PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive, compact and convenient intermediate infrared light/ultraviolet light emitting device which can emit intermediate infrared light and ultraviolet light simultaneously while regulating the wavelength of intermediate infrared light and the timing of ultraviolet light and especially applicable to mass spectrometry of a light mass substance, especially an insoluble protein sample, by irradiating intermediate infrared light and ultraviolet light together in matrix assisted desorption ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOFMS). SOLUTION: In a variable wavelength infrared light emitting device for emitting intermediate infrared light by differential frequency generation of an Nd:YAG laser 1 and a Cr:forsterite laser 2, a part of energy of the Nd:YAG laser directed to a nonlinear optical crystal 3 for generating differential frequency is branched so that the branched Nd:YAG laser or its harmonic ultraviolet light and variable wavelength intermediate infrared light can be outputted simultaneously.
