FIELD: organic chemistry, organic synthesis, chemical technology. ^ SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the improved method for synthesis of 3-phenyl-1,3,4-thiadiazolidine of the general formula (1): Method involves interaction of formaldehyde aqueous solution saturated with hydrogen sulfide with phenylhydrazine hydrochloride in ethanol medium and taken in the mole ratio phenylhydrazine : formaldehyde solution : hydrogen sulfide = 1:2:1, respectively, at temperature 0°C and at stirring for 3 h. Substances synthesized by the proposed method can be used as selective sorbents and extractants of precious metals, special reagents for inhibition of vital activity of microorganisms in different media (from light industry to petroleum extracting industry), biologically active substances used in synthesis of different medicinal preparations, for example, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral agents.
