A plasma display device and a driving method thereof are provided to enhance contrast of the plasma display device and to improve an erroneous discharge. A plasma display device includes a PDP(Plasma Display Panel,400), drivers(410,420,430), and a driving pulse controller(440). Plural scan and sustain electrodes are formed on the PDP. The drivers drive the scan and sustain electrodes. The driving pulse controller applies a positive pulse on the sustain electrode before a set-up pulse is applied on the sustain electrode during a reset period. The positive pulse is floated during a predetermined period. While the positive pulse is applied, a negative pulse, which gradually decreases, is applied on the scan electrode. The duration of the predetermined period lies between 10 to 30mus before the falling pulse reaches the maximum voltage level. The positive pulse is supplied from the same voltage source as the sustain pulse, which is applied during a sustain period.
