PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inter-vehicle communication apparatus for efficiently transmitting information even between vehicles where direct communication is hardly performed. SOLUTION: The inter-vehicle communication apparatus is the apparatus for allowing a self vehicle and the other vehicle to mutually communicate information including position/speed information of the respective vehicles. A position relation map of a place near the self vehicle 200<SB>M</SB>(an area A) is generated by specifying the present position of the self vehicle, acquiring map information near the specified position, and relating received position/speed information of the other vehicle to the map information together with position/speed information of the self vehicle. When the position relation map of an area where direct communication cannot be performed (an area C in the figure) is required, the vehicle closest to the area (200<SB>O</SB>in the figure) is requested to transmit its position relation map.
