<p>An offshore structure comprising a base 4, a deck 8 and a plurality of lattice legs 6 extending between the base and the deck, wherein the legs are arranged outboard of the deck, and a method for its construction comprising the steps of, jacking the deck to the required height, forming a permanent connection between the deck and the legs, and removing the jacking system (21, Fig 4) from the structure. Each leg may be triangular and comprise a vertically extending circular chord at each corner. The permanent connection may be formed with a vertical shear plate (46, Fig 9), welded between the deck and a stiffening plate (34, Fig 9), that extends through a leg chord. Coupling plates (48 and 50, Fig 9) may be welded between the deck and the leg chord, above and below the shear plate. A method for assembling the structure and a means for pulling the legs towards the deck, using hydraulic means, before the connection is made, are also disclosed.</p> |
