An apparatus and a method for controlling illumination by using a DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) data service are provided to remove inconvenience that a user directly and manually controls the illumination and remove the necessity of an additional device for sensing peripheral brightness by controlling the illumination by using sunset/sunrise time data of the DMB data service. An illumination device(180) is turned on or off according to certain control. A DMB data service receiving device(140) receives a DMB data service. An illumination control device(100) detects sunset/sunrise time data from the received DMB data service, and controls the illumination device(180) in response to the detected sunset/sunrise time data.
