An apparatus for processing an image signal of a camera is provided to output an image signal of good quality although the brightness of an object is sharply changed by filtering an image signal photographed in a CCD(Charge Coupled Device) by using a variable-type frequency filter. A CCD(10) converts an optical signal of an object into an electric signal. An ADC(Analog to Digital Converter)(20) converts an analog image signal outputted from the CCD(10) into a digital image signal, and outputs the digital image signal. A variable-type frequency filter(30) filters the digital image signal according to a frequency. A DSP(Digital Signal Processor)(40) performs a predetermined digital operating process of the image signal passing through the variable-type frequency filter(30), divides the image signal into a luminance signal and a chrominance signal, and outputs the luminance signal and the chrominance signal. The DSP(40) adjusts a filtering frequency value of the variable-type frequency filter(30) according to a luminance of the image signal.
