A display device and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to planarize the entire portion of a color filter layer, thereby preventing the lateral leakage of light, by overlapping two color filters at a region where the two color filters meet. A plurality of gate lines are formed on a substrate(100). A gate insulating layer(160) covers the substrate and the gate lines. A plurality of data lines are formed on the gate insulating layer across the gate lines. A passivation layer(240) covers the data lines. A color filter layer(260) is composed of plural color filters(260R,260G,260B) formed on the passivation layer. Two color filters overlap each other at a region where the two color filters meet.
