The invention relates to a portable electronic device (1), such as a watch bracelet, comprising at least one first (8) and one second (9) anaolog display element, means (23, 31) for carrying out measurements of a physical variable relating to the altitude value and a memory area (26) for storing the values of the physical variable thus measured. The electronic circuits (20) of the device can control the analog display elements in a variometric operational mode such that a first display element (9) indicates the instantaneous speed of the altitude variation and such that the second display element (8) indicates the value of the average speed of the altitude variation with regard to the adapted graduations (10) of the device.
