A CLEANING APPARATUS FOR CLEANING A FORMING WIRE

An improved arrangement is provided for cleaning a forming wire of papermaki ng apparatus of the kind in which paper stock is ejected from a headbox onto a forming wire, the water within the stock being drained through the forming wire to leave a formed web on the moving forming wire for subsequent passage to a press section. Cleaning apparatus according to the invention comprises a shower disposed upstream from the turning roll for spraining a cleaning liquid on t he forming wire; a housing disposed between the shower and the turning roll configured to permit a flow of pressurized air therethrough directed against the wire for removing at least part of the cleaning liquid, the housing including an opening that cooperates with the turning roll for substantially sealing the opening against loss of pressurized air. This improved arrangement utilizes the interaction of a housing connected to a source of air pressure and a forming turning roll for the cleaning of the forming wire of a papermaking machine.
