A reception notify controlling apparatus in a mobile communication terminal and a method thereof are provided to sense terminal motion when a call or a message is received, and to automatically control vibration strength or size of a receiving sound according to a degree of the terminal motion, thereby accurately notifying a terminal user of the fact that the call or the message is received. A terminal operation recognizer(11) recognizes the current terminal operation when a call or a message is received, and delivers a terminal motion signal corresponding to a degree of terminal motion. A motion stage determiner(12) compares the size of the terminal motion signal with the size of each motion stage signal level, and determines the current terminal motion stage. An information storage(13) stores a vibration strength level value and a receiving sound size level value which become each motion stage reception notify level value for controlling reception notify levels. A terminal controller(14) searches the storage(13) by using terminal motion stage information delivered from the determiner(12) to extract a reception notify level value corresponding to the current terminal motion stage, and automatically controls vibration strength or size of a receiving sound so that the size or the strength can match with a degree of the current terminal motion according to the reception notify level value.
