A mobile communication terminal for automatic mode conversion is provided to be automatically converted into an external notify mode preset by a user in case that the user's body gets close by using a human body infrared detection sensor, thereby realizing the user's convenience. A human body infrared detection sensor unit(10) senses infrared rays generated from a user's body, and generates a terminal possession notify signal if the sensed infrared rays are within a preset sensor detection range according to a sensitivity control signal. A terminal main controller(20) generates the sensitivity control signal to feed back the signal to the sensor unit(10), and sets a mobile communication terminal by automatically converting the terminal into a preset external notify mode according to the generated terminal possession notify signal.
