The box has fixed stoppers (6, 6`) placed on an inner control module (7) for transmitting a passage effort to the module and passing a desired speed. A fixed mechanical clearance is introduced between the stoppers and a part (51) of a passage finger with which the stoppers cooperate. The clearance is greater than amplitude of translation displacements of the module under the effect of movements of an idle pinion, in drive conditions such as torque direction variation, when the box is in neutral position or in gear engaged position. The part`s position is indexed by an indexing device (9). An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle comprising a gear box.
