An LCD and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to reduce a frictional force between a column spacer and a substrate and prevent ununiformity of black brightness by using a protrusion facing the column spacer and having a relatively small upper surface. A first substrate(100) and a second substrate(200) face each other. A gate line and a data line intersect each other on the first substrate, and defines a pixel region. A thin film transistor is formed at an intersection of the gate line and the data line. A column spacer(210) is formed of a first organic material at a predetermined portion of the gate line and the data line on the second substrate. A protrusion(110) is formed on the first substrate corresponding to the first column spacer, has an upper surface of a relatively small critical measure as compared to the column spacer, and is formed of a second organic material. A liquid crystal layer is filled between the first and second substrates.
