A backlight assembly and an LCD having the same are provided to improve the discharge maintenance rate of the backlight assembly, by wrapping a first glass tube with a second glass tube to prevent the direct exposure of the first glass tube. A backlight assembly comprises a first glass tube(120) and a second glass tube(130). The second glass tube is disposed to wrap the first glass tube. The second glass tube prevents the first glass tube from being exposed to the outside. Electrodes(122) are provided at both ends of the first glass tube. A vacuum condition is provided between the first glass tube and the second glass tube. The electrodes are formed on an outer surface or an inner surface of the first glass tube. |
