An image detection device of an HDDS(Holographic Digital Data Storage) system and a method thereof are provided to prevent misalign status according to a threshold value of a particular identifier pixel and a lightness difference on both sides of a particular identifier in the HDDS system, thereby exactly detecting an equivalent holographic data image. A particular identifier corresponding to a random holographic data image is marked on one side of a data recording area(502). A position of the particular identifier is detected during data reproduction(504). A lightness difference of both-sided pixels of the particular identifier is calculated and compared with a predetermined value(506,508). If the calculated lightness difference is within a predetermined value range, a pixel value of the particular identifier is compared with a threshold value(510). If the pixel value satisfies the threshold value, the holographic data image is detected(512).
