A remote control apparatus of an electronic instrument and a method thereof are provided to selectively extract each code value only of an infrared signal by using supersonic waves delivered together with the infrared signal, thereby preventing an incorrect operation of an electronic instrument. A control block of a remote controller checks whether an operation signal corresponding to a user's operation is inputted from an operation block in idle mode(202,204). If so, a supersonic signal indicative of an infrared signal section only is generated and wirelessly delivered(206). Wirelessly delivered infrared and supersonic signals are received, respectively(208). A switching unit is enabled to control so that output of an infrared code extraction block is not delivered to the control block(210-216).
