A color filter of high quality that has a small difference between thickness of a region where a resin-made light shielding part and a colored layer are disposed one upon the other and thickness of a region where only a colored layer is disposed, minimizing disorder of liquid crystal alignment, etc. There is provided a color filter comprising a transparent base sheet, light shielding parts superimposed on the transparent base sheet and containing at least a light shielding material and a resin, and a colored layer superimposed on the transparent base sheet at open areas defined by the light shielding parts so as to cover parts of the light shielding parts, characterized in that with respect to each of the light shielding parts, the width of thick region positioned in the center of the light shielding part and having a thickness of >= 85% of the maximum thickness of the light shielding part is within the range of 30 to 60% of the line width of the light shielding part, while each of the widths of thin regions positioned at two sides of the light shielding part and having a thickness of <=50% of the maximum thickness of the light shielding part is within the range of 10 to 20% of the line width of the light shielding part. ® KIPO & WIPO 2007
