A shift register and a driving method thereof are provided to prevent a non-selected stage from outputting an output signal by previously discharging first nodes of the non-selected stages, when a selected stage starts operating. A shift register includes plural stages, a node controller(300a), an output unit(300b), and a discharge unit(300c). The stages sequentially enable gate lines of an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) panel by sequentially supplying scan pulses. The stages supply a first voltage source to the gate lines, while no scan pulse is supplied to the gate lines, to disable the gate lines. The node controller controls charging and discharging states of first and second nodes of each stage. The output unit supplies the scan pulse to the gate line according to the state of the first node and the first voltage source to the gate line according to the state of the second node. The discharge unit receives the scan pulse and maintains the first node of the stages at a discharged state in response to a control signal from the outside.
