A portable computer is provided to determine availability of wireless communication by receiving a signal of an AP(Access Point) from the outside in a power-off mode and a power saving mode. A signal detector(20) detects whether the signal of the AP(70) for a wireless communication function is received from the outside and outputs a detection signal depending on a detection result. A controller(30) makes the signal detector detect the AP signal if a specific input signal is received through a user input part(50) in the power-off or power saving mode, and makes a power supply(40) operated in a normal mode if the detection signal is received from the signal detector. The signal detector outputs the detection signal according to a reception level by detecting the reception level of the AP signal. If the detection level is higher than a preset level, the controller makes the power supply operated in the normal mode. |
