A message error handling method and a position tracking system are provided to send information about a field from which an error is generated in case the error is generated in a process of handling a message transmitted between a terminal, receiving position information from a position information system, and a server which is a network element for tracking a position of the terminal. An SUPL(Secure User Plane Location) agent(10) demands position tracking. An SLP(SUPL Location Platform)(20) receives the demand, and transmits a message to a target SET(SUPL Enabled Terminal)(30) which is a position-tracked target. If an error of the message is detected while the position tracking process is performed, the target SET(30) transmits an error message which includes error information to the SLP(20).
