A system and a method for communicating with memory devices are provided to efficiently use data buses in data exchange with the memory devices by using a memory interface. The memory interface(114) includes a data interface, the first/second state machine, a control interface for controlling the first/second memory device, and a DMA(Direct Memory Access) controller(112). The first state machine includes the first chip select interface and the first ready/busy interface, and selects/monitors the first memory device through the first chip select interface and the first ready/busy interface when the first memory device is connected to the data interface. The second state machine includes the second chip select interface and the second ready/busy interface, and selects/monitors the second memory device through the second chip select interface and the second ready/busy interface when the second memory device is connected to the data interface.
