A method for configuring a channel map in a digital broadcasting receiver is provided to satisfy a desire of a user who wants to view an HDTV(High Definition TV) by sub-grouping channel maps according to resolution. If an automatic channel setup command is inputted by a user(S200), a digital broadcasting receiver tunes a channel by using a tuner and performs a scan according to frequency bands(S202). The digital broadcasting receiver grasps the resolution of an image according to the scanned frequency bands(S204). The digital broadcasting receiver configures and stores channel maps according to resolution by using resolution information grasped according to the frequency bands(S206).
