A backlight unit for a field sequential liquid crystal display device is provided to secure high color purity by clearly separating colors between areas with applying a split driving concept for securing time for charging thin film transistors. A light guide plate(153) has a plurality of sub-units(153a,153b,153c,154d) equally dividing an effective light emitting plane of a display panel into N parts. Disconnection parts(155) are formed between the plurality of sub-units in a slit structure. A plurality of lamps(101) are arranged between the plurality of sub-units. A reflector(107) is formed below the light guide plate and the lamps. |
