The drying device, especially for drying saw wood, has drying chambers (4,6) which are interconnected, communicating with each other, and which have a common flow generating unit (24) for circulating a drying air flow around the inside of the chambers, and a heating device (26) for heating the drying air. The drying chambers are interconnected free of permanent vertical partitions. The common flow generating unit and/or the common heating device are located in, or in direct proximity to, a vertical plane between the drying chambers.
