A method for processing a character code according to a key input method in a mobile terminal and the mobile terminal are provided to allow a user to quickly and conveniently input various characters through inputting a simple key at once. A transmitter/receiver(110) transmits/receives signals. A storage unit(120) stores data. A keypad(130) inputs characters. In case of a long key input method, a controller(140) automatically converts character codes continuously according to the pre-set character code order, and inputs and processes a character code at a point of time when a keypad is depressed. A display unit(150) displays the converted character codes and the inputted/processed character code under the control of the controller(140).
