A barge emptying system and the method for unloading the granular bulk material from the double bottom barge (500), having plurality of interconnected and partly covered hoppers (502) and having at least one material discharging hopper (601), is floated into a buoyancy compartment (1001) closing the barge access gate (101) operating the pump (WP) and flooding the buoyancy compartment (1001) and floating the loaded barge (500) upwards and at required height floating the barge into another water flooded buoyancy compartment (1002) closing the gate (102) draining the buoyancy compartment (1002) and lowering the barge (500) to engage its plurality of barge anchors (501) into respective plurality of arced slots (1005) of the barge seat (1003) further draining for tilting, resting and anchoring the loaded barge (500) in the barge seat (1003) and sequentially opening the slide gate (1004), the hinged gate (607) at bottom of the barge and the plate gate (602) of the material discharging hopper (601) and emptying the granular contents of the barge (500) into a material receiving silo (2000) and performing reverse operation and returning the empty barge (500) back to water body (100).
