A matting surface (2) capable of carrying military equipment having a first flooring member (4) and a second flooring (6) member is disclosed. The first flooring member (4) is substantially parallel to the second flooring member (6). Each of the first and second flooring members (4, 6) have an end (12, 20) with an extending tabular member (24, 32) and a grooved end (26, 34) that is structured to slideably receive the extending tabular end (24, 32) of an adjacent flooring member (28, 36) thereby forming a joint between the flooring members (4, 6) and the adjacent flooring members (28, 36).
