A method and an apparatus for acquiring still images from video signals are provided to enable a user to obtain the still image of a desired scene in a reproduced program nearly without limitation and the still image of a scene, which the user most likes, and a scene most similar to the scene, thereby greatly improving convenience of the user of a recording/reproducing device. A method for acquiring still images from video signals comprises the following steps of: storing access information capable of acquiring a scene of request time whenever requesting the still image while the video signal is reproduced from recording media(S20~S24); and after reproduction completion, acquiring each scene, designated by the plural stored access information, and converting the each scene into the still image, and recording the still image in the recording media or other storage media(S26~S30).
