A pump fitting for a vehicle fuel tank has a secondary housing (20) fitted into the bottom of the fuel tank (50) and containing the pump (10). The housing is made of plastic as is a non woven plastic filter element (30) in the bottom of the secondary housing. The pump inlet (11) is from the filter element and the secondary tank is linked to the main tank by non return valves (23) which ensure a fuel level at all times inside the secondary tank.
