An in-plain switching mode liquid crystal display device is provided to improve response speed of a liquid crystal display device by reducing falling time required for liquid crystal compounds to return an equilibrium state, and by increasing an effective elastic coefficient between the liquid crystal compounds by forming liquid crystal compositions by mixing a liquid crystal compound having positive dielectric anisotropy and a liquid crystal compound having negative dielectric anisotropy. Gate lines and data lines cross on a first substrate for defining unit pixel areas. Switching devices are formed at cross areas of the gate lines and the data lines. Common electrodes and pixel electrodes are substantially arranged on the first substrate in parallel to generate an in-plane field. A liquid crystal layer is formed between the first substrate and a second substrate. In case that a maximum voltage is applied to the common electrodes and the pixel electrodes, a twisted angle between liquid crystal compositions(150a,150b) of the liquid crystal layer is 90 degrees at the maximum.
