An image forming device for generating a password and a method thereof are provided to reduce risk for flowing out the password to the outside by enabling a host user to perform an authentication process using the password, as the password is generated in the image forming device by using a random process and is directly offered to the host connected through the network. An engine unit(250) performs an image forming process. A password generator(210) generates the password. A password transmitter(230) transmits the password to the host through diverse modes such as an SMS(Short Message Service), an email, facsimile, and an application. A user interface(220) receives a control command and the password. A controller(240) compares the password inputted through the user interface with the password generated in the password generator, and makes the engine unit perform the image forming process corresponding to the control command if both passwords are matched. A storing part(270) stores information for the target host connected to the network.
