An in-plane switching mode LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and a method of manufacturing the LCD are provided to improve an aperture ratio by forming a black column spacer at a portion where a black matrix is located. An in-plane switching mode LCD includes a first substrate(100), a second substrate, a gate line(102), a data line(120), a thin film transistor(T), a common electrode(130), a pixel electrode(128), a black matrix, a color filter, and a bar-shaped black column spacer(208). The gate line and the data line are formed on the first substrate and intersect each other to define a pixel region. The thin film transistor is formed at the intersection of the gate line and the data line. The common electrode and the pixel electrode are arranged in the pixel region in parallel with each other and spaced apart from each other. The black matrix is formed on the second substrate. The color filter corresponds to the pixel region. The black column spacer is formed below the black matrix and placed on the data line and a region between the data line and an electrode adjacent to the data line. |
