The method involve illuminating a bank note (BN) to be checked with polarized light, and testing the light that is reflected by the note. Amount of the reflected light with a polarization, which deviates at 45 degree from the polarization of the illuminating light, is determined. Presence of different material such as adhesive tape is concluded based on the determined amount of reflected light. The illuminating light is linearly polarized. An independent claim is also included for a device for checking a bond such as bank note, for the presence of different material such as adhesive tape.
