APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR SCHEDULING OF HIGH-SPEED PORTABLE INTERNET SYSTEM

An apparatus and a method for scheduling in a high-speed portable Internet system are provided to perform packet scheduling operations after dividing the packet scheduling operations into a time-insensitive first scheduling step and a time-sensitive second scheduling step, and selectively apply a scheduling algorithm optimized for supporting a multimedia service, thereby efficiently processing packets. A method for scheduling in a high-speed portable Internet system comprises the following steps of: determining multimedia service types provided by an access point, selecting a predetermined scheduling algorithm according to each multimedia service type, determining a transmission order of packets by applying the selected scheduling algorithm to the packets received from a network, and composing a transmit wait queue according to the determined transmission order; and allocating radio bands to the packets queued in the transmit wait queue, determining the size of transmittable data, generating a PDU(Protocol Data Unit) based on size of the transmittable data, and generating frame data by the combination of the PDUs.
